Elopement- 16th century and Today

21 century elopement

Picture
Compared to the sixteenth century elopement today is a lot more common.
Is it the same type of elopement? Is it for the same reasons?

In the sixteenth century elopement very often consisted of young teenage lovers running off to marry without their parents' consent. However, in the 21st century the content and definition of elopement has vividly changed. Marriages in the Occident are no longer arranged by parents, and people are free to choose when, where, how, and whom they shall marry. So why would people want to elope?
Some of the reasons for elopement in the 21st century might include:

-To reduce the cost
-Need for a hurried marriage
-To reduce interference from family
-for immigration or legal issues.

CASE STUDY:
Sandra and Jean-Luc wanted to get married. They thus announced their marriage to their families who instantly started to try to organise their wedding place, cost, and visitors. Due to this interference the nice idea of a marriage turned into a stressful period for Sandra and Jean-Luc. They flew to Las Vegas (the 21st century capital of elopement) where they were legally married in privacy and returned to France as a couple.
